RHINO - CT Select Team

Rhino Lacrosse -- founded 10 years ago by lacrosse legend Ryan Powell (Syracuse, MLL MVP, Team USA Captain) to develop elite youth lacrosse players through the highest quality coaching and competition - is launching a Rhino CT Select team based in Fairfield.  Rhino operates select travel teams across the nation and has chosen Fairfield to expand due to the depth of talent and lack of options in this part of the County.

With the explosion of lacrosse in the past ten years, Rhino has grown in response to the need for top-notch training. While many very good summer travel team options exist in southern Fairfield County, Rhino CT Select has recognized the void in eastern Fairfield County.  We will be offering a program based in Fairfield that may be more convenient for local lacrosse families while still offering the highest level lacrosse experience with great coaching and competition.
Rhino CT Select will be managed locally with a full-time staff. The General Manager is John Mathews.  John is the Head Coach at Weston HS where he led the team to the state championship in 2010 and 2013, and was named CT Post Coach of the Year in 2012.  Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Fairfield Prep, helping them to three consecutive state championships.  John played collegiately at Syracuse, where he started at midfield and helped the Orangemen win an NCAA title.
Rhino CT Select will field teams in five grades for the summer of 2016 - Class of 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.  We will be adding several grades next year, including high school teams.
Summer team practices will be held in Fairfield, and we will be offering fall and winter clinics at InSports in Trumbull.  All training curriculum and practice plans have been developed by Ryan Powell.
Our teams will have a four-day training camp in June focused on skill development and then will have team practices.  Teams will play 2-4 tournaments (ideally at least one CT-based tournament), depending on their grade, in June and the first part of July.  We aim to end our program earlier in the summer than many other teams, recognizing the need for families to spend time together, go to other lacrosse camps, and engage in other sports.  Rhino believes in and advocates for lacrosse players to play multiple sports.

Program Details
The CT Select teams will provide a competitive opportunity combined with a commitment to the ongoing development of each player.  Just as important as our tournament play will be our training camp, practice sessions and Clinic Series.  Our coaching staff is invested in the individual training and growth of each player.  We will develop elite players in a challenging and exciting atmosphere where leadership and teamwork will be expected of all players.  It is our hope that each player can carry their love of the sport with them and always strive to reach their highest potential, both on and off the field.
